Stevie Barrett
Project Manager and Technical Officer

 

Stevie is responsible for project planning, the day-to-day running of HOTBED, and the creation of the system that will allow staff and students to make use of the Academy's new digital archive.

Stevie has previously worked as a Project Manager and a Programmer for a dotcom serving the performing arts industry. His technical expertise includes multimedia database technologies (using MySQL and Hyperwave), Internet delivery services (Apache and Hyperwave), UNIX system administration in Linux, Solaris and Darwin, as well as programming in Java, PHP, and C.

As a freelance web designer, Stevie has created sites for a number of clients. Specialising in music and arts related sites, his portfolio includes www.margaretbennett.co.uk for the singer and folklorist Margaret Bennett, www.kodamusic.com, and www.scottishtour.org.uk, the Scottish arts portal.

Stevie is also a digital music specialist, having worked as a recording engineer and digital recording studio manager, pioneering the use of digital recording technologies for studios in Glasgow, as well as a freelance electronic music composer, creating music with sequencers, samplers, synthesizers, and live musicians.

A keen photographer (both digital and film), Stevie has been awarded a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS).


He is a graduate of Glasgow University, with degrees in Philosophy, English Literature, and Romanticism, and a postgraduate diploma in Information Technology.
